As a leading graphic designer in Enfield, I often get asked about the designing of logos and websites amongst other things. Essentially, clients want to convey the very best image and so I thought it would be a good idea to outline some interesting facts about both. In this blog, I will be focusing on logos, but please do come back to read more from this series, where I will be looking at website design, graphic design and more over the weeks ahead.
So what’s in a logo?
The logo can seem such an insignificant part of your business, but very often it can say so much about you. For example, on a very simple level if you’re a localised business operating in Enfield and you build houses, you’ll want your logo and of course your website to convey this succinctly, so the right kind of logo design is extremely important.
However, if you’re a bigger brand who operates in the UK and beyond, your focus of attention will be significantly different, as you will need to navigate different cultures and what is acceptable within them.
To put it into perspective, how do you feel when you glimpse the warm sweeping glow of the McDonald’s M? Or see the sharp, energetic outline of the Nike tick? More often than not, these images will produce a feeling of familiarity and comfort, even if you’re just walking straight past them. That’s because they are designed to penetrate our subconscious, so that when we do feel the need for a coffee for example, it’s the green Starbuck’s logo we’re on the hunt for (or maybe the Costa sign depending on the demographic you fall in to).
The importance of the logo is unquestionable when thought of in this way. In a highly competitive world where one type of product is offered by countless different companies, the need for an original, powerful, and impactful logo is the key to getting noticed. Without a strong image, companies will inevitably fade into the background, so it’s important to focus on how to achieve the very best logo for your brand, ensuring it really encapsulates exactly who you.
Logos are symbols which can include the name or initials of the company, but can also be an image that ostensibly has nothing to do with the product itself. For example, what’s the Nike tick got to do with sport’s wear? Nothing, but this hasn’t stopped the brand being one of the most popular in the world.
I have undertaken a considerable amount of graphic design in Enfield and the surrounding areas, but equally work with clients that are further afield, so my graphic design counters in a number of factors. With logos the shape and colour are all considerations for clients as well as information on demographics, target markets and much more.
So what’s important?
It is very important to ensure your logo is good for use in all sorts of formats. Thus, you will want to ensure it fits your letterheads, your packaging and of course your brochures, but that it is also suitable for online use. Therefore, when looking at a rebrand or new logo, make sure that the graphic designer is suitably qualified enough to ask the right questions!
